Imran Khan was born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan, to a Pashtun family. His father, Ikramullah Khan Niazi, was a civil engineer, and his mother, Shaukat Khanum, was a housewife. Imran was the only son of his parents and had four sisters.
Imran’s early education was at the Aitchison College in Lahore, where he excelled in sports, particularly cricket. He later attended the Royal Grammar School in Worcester, England, and then went on to study philosophy, politics, and economics at Keble College, Oxford.
After graduating from Oxford in 1976, Imran returned to Pakistan and joined the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cricket team. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the leading fast bowlers in the world.
Imran’s cricket career spanned over two decades, during which he played 88 Test matches and 175 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He took 362 wickets in Test cricket and 182 wickets in ODIs. Imran was also a skilled batsman and scored 3,520 runs in Test cricket and 3,844 runs in ODIs.
In 1992, Imran led the Pakistan cricket team to victory in the Cricket World Cup, defeating England in the final. He retired from cricket in 1992 and was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.
After retiring from cricket, Imran turned to politics and founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996. He contested his first election in 1997 but lost. However, he continued to be involved in politics and eventually won a seat in the National Assembly in 2002.
In 2013, Imran’s PTI party won 30 seats in the National Assembly, and he became the leader of the opposition. In 2018, PTI won the general elections, and Imran became the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
As Prime Minister, Imran has focused on anti-corruption, economic reform, and social welfare. He has also been a vocal critic of corruption and has launched several initiatives to root out corruption from Pakistani society.
Imran has been married three times, first to Jemima Goldsmith from 1995 to 2004, then to Reham Khan from 2014 to 2015, and finally to Bushra Wattoo in 2018. He has two sons, Suleiman Isa and Kasim Khan, from his first marriage.
Throughout his life, Imran has been known for his philanthropic work, particularly in the area of healthcare and education. He founded the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore in 1994 and the Namal College in Mianwali in 2008.
